Du Juan is a Chinese fashion model and former ballerina. She has been touted as the world’s first international Chinese supermodel
Du Juan originally pursued a career in classical ballet, training in a prestigious Shanghai Academy of Dance for nine years. But her tall height soon became unsuitable for dance partners.
In 2005 the photographer Mario Testino photographed her for the cover of Vogue Paris together with Australian model Gemma Ward, becoming the first ever Asian cover-model. Which lead to the rise of interest for major fashion brands,and she did advertising campaign for brand like Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli, Gap, Swarovski, United Colors of Benetton, and Yves St. Laurent.She graced the cover for the premier issue of Vogue China and has since become a fixture in its pages, appearing in almost one editorial per issue sicne its launch in 2005.
Du Juan made her runway debut in Spring 2006, walking for designers such as Valentino, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Roberto Cavalli and Chanel.
For the recent season we haven’t seen her much in Europe, but she spends her time between New York and China. She is married to Huang Guangyu, who was the Chairman of GOME Group, which is the largest consumer electronics retailer in China.
